Houston Cougars Football History

The University of Houston Cougars football program was founded in 1946. The Cougars have played their home games at TDECU Stadium since 2014.

The Cougars have won 16 conference championships, including 11 in the Southwest Conference (SWC) and 5 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). They have also appeared in 20 bowl games, including the Sugar Bowl in 1979 and the Fiesta Bowl in 2006.

The Cougars' most successful era was in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when they were coached by Bill Yeoman. Yeoman led the team to 10 straight winning seasons, including a 12-0 record in 1973. The Cougars also won the SWC championship in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974.
